Helping vulnerable residents recover

“We were so grateful that you were able to help with this client, as we were very concerned at her living situation…and the impact of this both physically and mentally…It was lovely to visit her after the works were completed and to see the improvement in her demeanour and mood. Thank you.”

When a flood left a vulnerable woman in Hawarden living in a cold, damp home with a collapsed ceiling, emergency funding from the Hawarden and District Relief in Need Fund made urgent repairs possible. The support not only restored her living space, but it also significantly improved her physical health and mental wellbeing.

With no insurance cover and limited finances, the woman was left living in one room of her home, unable to afford the heating needed to keep warm. The damp and cold were affecting her health, and the situation left her feeling distressed and helpless.

Care and Repair North Wales applied to the Hawarden Fund on their client’s behalf. A site visit confirmed the severity of the situation, and the Fund quickly provided financial support for the essential repairs. This made it possible for the home to dry out properly and safely, before any further damage took place.

The repairs made a profound difference. The client was finally able to use her kitchen again and live in a healthier environment; her mental health also improved dramatically, proving how life-changing acts of support can be.
