Celebrating Pride Month and the power of community support in Wales
We’re proud to support many organisations working year-round to improve the lives of LGBTQ+ people across Wales.
June marks Pride Month in the UK and across much of the world – a time to celebrate LGBTQ+ communities, reflect on progress made, and recognise the ongoing work needed to ensure safety, inclusion and equality for all.
We’re proud to support many organisations working year-round to improve the lives of LGBTQ+ people across Wales. Their work goes far beyond celebration; it provides vital spaces for connection, safety and belonging in communities where these are not always guaranteed.
Supporting LGBTQ+ communities in Llanelli
One organisation we’re particularly proud to highlight is Llanelli LGBTQ+, who received funding through our Fund for Wales, supported by players of the Postcode Lottery.
Llanelli LGBTQ+ provides a welcoming and inclusive space for LGBTQ+ people and their families in the Llanelli area. Through regular coffee mornings and social evenings, the group offers opportunities for people of all ages to come together, share experiences and build supportive friendships.
For many attendees, these sessions are more than social gatherings – they’re a vital source of community connection, reducing isolation and helping individuals feel seen, heard and supported.
Tackling isolation, hate and inequality
Alongside their community support work, Llanelli LGBTQ+ plays an important role in promoting safety and understanding within the wider area. The group works to raise awareness around LGBTQ+ experiences and help address the impact of hate crime and discrimination.
In addition to their LGBTQ+ focused support, the group contributes to wider community wellbeing by supporting local foodbanks and helping individuals and families facing financial hardship. This holistic approach reflects the reality that many people experience multiple, overlapping challenges – something that community support often needs to respond in flexible and compassionate ways.
Why this work matters
At a time when many communities are facing increasing pressures, organisations like Llanelli LGBTQ+ are providing essential support networks that help people feel less alone. Their work demonstrates the importance of both grassroots, community-led action, as well as corporate social responsibility, in building more inclusive and connected communities across Wales.
Small grants can make a significant difference, enabling groups like this to continue offering regular, accessible support and expand the reach of their work.
A thank you to community champions
We’d like to say a heartfelt thank you to the volunteers, organisers and members of Llanelli LGBTQ+ for the incredible work they do to support their community.
We’re also grateful to the players of the Postcode Lottery, whose support through Fund for Wales helps make this work possible.
Together, this funding is helping to strengthen communities, reduce isolation and improve lives across Wales not just during Pride Month, but all year round.
