My background

After being born in Aberdare, my family moved around South Wales until we settled in Whitchurch, Cardiff. I moved to London in 1971 to study medicine at Westminster Medical School and eventually became a consultant cardiologist at St. Mary’s and Hammersmith Hospitals in London. I specialized in electrical abnormalities of the heart that cause heart rhythm disorders. I retired from medical practice in 2022.

What I do

I sit on the Board of The Community Foundation of Wales and also on the Forward Planning and Grants Committees.

Ask me about

The important impact that The Community Foundation of Wales makes across all of Wales by enabling local people to solve their own local problems in a lasting manner.

Why I love Wales

My first breath was taken in Wales. The first words I heard were in Welsh. The first utterings I made were in Welsh (ish!). London was the best of places for me to work but meeting figures from my childhood at my father’s funeral in Cardiff made me realise that my roots are, and always will be, in Wales.
