Thank you for supporting the Wales Flood Recovery Fund
As a result of the severe storms over the Christmas period and into 2016, and following public concern for the affected families and communities, the Community Foundation in Wales re-established the Wales Flood Recovery Fund on New Year’s Eve.
Donors from across Wales supported this appeal with over £15,000 in gifts from businesses, families, trusts and community groups. For example, Principality Building Society kindly donated to support community recovery, as did a Tesco branch, and we were delighted to receive a donation from Mrs M.C. Bartley who raised an amazing £300 at her charity community café.
Liza Kellett, Chief Executive of the Foundation, said, “As a charity dedicated to strengthening communities, we set up our Flood Recovery Fund to be an easy and effective way for donors, like Mrs Bartley, to help local projects recover their community spirit – something which, like tangible infrastructure, is easy to destroy yet takes years to build.
“Thankfully in Wales the storms weren’t as severe as other parts of the UK, although we had our fair share of stranded drivers and flooded countryside. With emergency aid and insurance recovery provided by local agencies, coupled with previous years’ experience and recovery efforts in addressing hugely challenging floods and storms, Welsh community groups fared relatively well. We’re pleased to have been able to build our Wales Flood Recovery Fund to be pro-active, re-active, and supportive in helping communities to recover.”
The Wales Flood Recovery Fund remains open for community groups to submit applications to help them recover community spirit and community resources. To donate contact us on 02920 379580 or email info@cfiw.org.uk
