Finding friendship and connection through art

“I’m so grateful that this group exists and I know there are other disabled members who love the meetings, from those with autism to M.E.”

Celf-Able is a group which brings individuals with disabilities and disability artists together to share and learn from each other. They received a grant of £942 to run two art sessions a month for a group of people with various disabilities.

The project helped to combat the isolation and exclusion some disabled people face and allowed these individuals to take part in therapeutic art. The participants had the opportunity to try different art mediums to ensure everyone found something that they enjoyed.

The group provided a place for people with disabilities to create art, socialise and share support and advice with peers.

The people attending these groups found that focussing on art helped them to feel relaxed and more able to express themselves in a supported atmosphere. It also helped them to develop relationships with other group members.

When people think about philanthropy, it’s often the large-scale donations and major fundraising campaigns that come to mind. But relatively small amounts of funding can also have a transformative impact on someone’s future.
