North East Wales Science Fund – Individuals
Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire,
The North East Wales Science Fund aims to support students from Flintshire, Denbighshire and Conwy county.
- The fund will support students facing financial hardship and are or will be studying Physics, Chemistry, or Mathematics, or any combination with a related scientific subject.
Grants available
Individuals studying Physics, Chemistry, or Mathematics, or a course with a significant scientific aspect can apply for a grant of £1,000 per year, up to four years for the following modes of study:
- Undergraduate level
- Postgraduate level
- HND
- PhD
Applicants for postgraduate study are required to submit a statement regarding the programme of study and research aims.
Applicants will usually be granted awards for the duration of their course, subject to completion of a monitoring report on the previous year and confirmation by their college of subsequent enrolment each year.
Grants are awarded for a specified course and may not be applied to any other purpose without written approval from the Trustees.
Who can apply?
Applicants must be:
- Residents of Flintshire, Denbighshire or Conwy county.
- Under the age of 25.
- The application must show a clear need for financial support, financial hardship or additional support needs.
- Costs associated with entering into further/higher education including equipment, materials, overseas travel, and course/exam fees.
Successful applicants will be paid upon proof of enrolment on your stated course.
Preference will be given to applicants who can demonstrate exactly how they will meet the Fund’s objectives and priorities, and who have not previously received support from this Fund.
Please note: Grants will only be awarded for costs that are to be incurred after an application has been approved. Awards cannot be made retrospectively i.e. for activities that have already taken place.

Applicants must complete an online application form which can be accessed via our website. The website will contain the most up to date information regarding deadline dates, etc.
Please note:
Applicants applying for funding for a Postgraduate level course must have attained a 1st or upper 2nd class honours degree.
- Successful applicants should notify the Trustees as soon as possible, if any change in circumstances affect your study, such as a change of course, examination failure or ill health.
- Preference will be given to applicants who best show how they meet the Fund’s objectives, and who best demonstrate the financial and social need the grant will address.
- The application must show a clear need for financial support, financial hardship or additional support needs.
- Grants will not be awarded retrospectively i.e. for costs already incurred prior to receipt of the grant offer letter and signed terms and conditions.
