Meet our Friend… David Gold
We had a virtual sit down with one of our Friends, David Gold, to get his thoughts on the role of community foundations and to find out why he decided to become a Friend of Community Foundation Wales.
How did you find out about Community Foundation Wales?
The idea of community foundations came over from America originally, and I’ve enjoyed witnessing the expansion of community foundations in the UK. What Community Foundation Wales does really well is bringing a proper local understanding to community and philanthropy, connecting grassroots organisations to those who wish to give. I think it’s an excellent model.
I found out about the work of Community Foundation Wales when I was invited me their 20th birthday celebration event in Cardiff, an event that I thoroughly enjoyed.
Why did you become a Friend of Community Foundation Wales?
I spend a lot of time in Wales, I love being here and I have a local community in Pembrokeshire that I feel a part of.
Whilst I donate locally in Pembrokeshire, an area I am passionate about, I also believe that your community extends wider than the five-mile radius where you live. So, I decided to invest in the rest of Wales, by becoming a Friend of Community Foundation Wales.
I don’t know how to pick the projects within the different communities across Wales, but I know Community Foundation Wales understand what themes and areas are most in need, and I trust the very talented team to make the most out of my donation. Becoming a friend seemed an easy way to invest in the community without having the necessary knowledge of the projects around me.
What has been the highlight of becoming a Friend of Community Foundation Wales?
The highlight for me has been watching the talented individuals supported with grants by Community Foundation Wales perform at events I have attended as a friend.
