Judi Rhys MBE
Trustee
My background
I was born in South Wales and started my career in the NHS, before moving into higher education, first at the Open University and then Cardiff University. I have worked in the third sector since 2006 in various senior leadership roles in health and social care charities, and as a CEO since 2013. I have held a number of charity trustee roles, including Samaritans Cymru and Alzheimer’s Society, and was a NED at Public Health Wales until 2022. I was awarded MBE in 2021 for services to the voluntary sector.
What I do
Before taking over as Chair of Community Foundation Wales, I was CEO of the Wales-based charity, Tenovus Cancer Care. I am also the Chair of the Less Survivable Cancer Taskforce in Wales as well as a NED at Sport Wales. Outside work, I am a keen and competitive runner, both surprised and delighted to have been selected to run for Wales several times in my age category.
Ask me about…
The social determinants of health, inequality and the impact a grant from Community Foundation Wales can make to grassroots organisations.
Why I love Wales
I was born and bred in Wales, it’s the country I call home. We have so many areas of outstanding natural beauty along with a fantastic cultural and sporting heritage.
