Welsh Government report recommends collaboration with the Foundation to create source of sustainable funding

Welsh Government and arts bodies should work with Community Foundation in Wales to create sustainable funding for the sector, says a new report.
The report is from an inquiry ran by the National Assembly for Wales’ Culture, Welsh Language and Communications Committee, led by chair Bethan Sayed AM.

Among its recommendations, the report reads: “We welcome the work of organisations such as the Community Foundation in Wales and believe the Welsh Government should consider how it can work with such groups to address the shortcomings identified within this report. In particular, working with them, and other stakeholders across the arts sector, to look at opportunities to create and jointly promote a sustainable fund.”

The report also calls on more action to encourage UK trust and foundation support for groups in Wales and support to develop fundraising skills in the Welsh arts sector.

Richard Williams, chief executive of the Community Foundation in Wales, welcomed the report.

The Foundation connects generous people and organisations with third sector and community groups, and already supports many arts organisations across Wales.

Richard said: “We already work with many UK trusts and foundations who want to invest in Wales, but we know that many more would also invest if we could provide a bit more encouragement and support to do so. We welcome this drive to encourage more action and are ready to work with Welsh Government and other partners on this.

“The Foundation is uniquely placed to open new funding channels for the sector in Wales, through our core purpose and expertise in encouraging philanthropy from individuals and organisations like trusts and foundations. We look forward to working with Welsh Government and the arts community to develop and grow the resources available to deliver creative work in communities across Wales.”
