How partnership funding is supporting communities in mid Wales

The story of Shakespeare Link offers a compelling example of how collaboration between funders, community organisations and local partners can create meaningful, lasting impact.

How partnership funding is supporting communities in mid Wales

A community at the heart of creativity

Based at the open-air Willow Globe, Shakespeare Link is a theatre group deeply rooted in its local community. Through inclusive programmes, they provide opportunities for people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to engage with the arts.

Beyond their regular activities, the group plays a vital role in bringing people together, working collaboratively with other organisations across Mid Wales to strengthen community connections and widen access to creative experiences.

Turning funding into impact

With support from the Ashley Family Foundation, Shakespeare Link was able to host a one-day arts and nature festival celebrating the summer solstice. Held at Wilder Pentwyn Farm in partnership with Radnorshire Wildlife Trust, the event brought together creativity, nature and community spirit.

Throughout the day, attendees took part in a range of arts and nature-based activities, culminating in a performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The event welcomed over 100 people (the largest audience the site has hosted to date) highlighting both the demand for and the impact of accessible, community-led cultural experiences.

Why partnerships matter

This project demonstrates the value of partnership at every level. Community groups working together can deliver richer, more inclusive experiences. At the same time, funders working collaboratively can extend their reach and ensure funding is delivered effectively to where it is needed most.

Through our partnership model, we work with organisations like the Ashley Family Foundation to manage and promote funds, carry out due diligence, and support the distribution of grants – while enabling funders to remain closely connected to the causes they care about.

What this means for donors and community groups

For donors, this is a clear example of how funding can be transformed into tangible, local impact, supporting initiatives that bring people together, foster creativity, and strengthen communities.

For community groups, it highlights the opportunities available through partnership funding and the potential to collaborate with others to bring ambitious, meaningful projects to life.
